How to install CC Expanding Sealer (adhesive)

Instructions on how to use the CC Expanding Sealer (adhesive version) when installing a window.

Installation of CC window sealer (adhesive) – instruction guide

Good to know before you start:

  • This version has a self-adhesive side for faster installation.
  • When applying the sealer on the frame. Remember to move the CC Expanding Sealer out a bit above the window so that there are no cold drafts in the corners.

How to install the expanding sealer (adhesive):

  1. Carefully open the package with a knife or scissors to release the vacuum.
  2. Pull out the sealer to the desired length to be used (ie as much as the cavity to be sealed).
  3. Remove the protective plastic on one side to release the adhesive.
  4. Apply  the CC expanding sealer to the piece or object to be sealed. Press the CC expanding sealer to the surface so that it sticks on to it. Should there be nothing to attach the sealer to, apply it straight to the window frame.
  5. It is important to push the sealer up in the corners so that the seal is precise and there are no cold drafts in the corners.
  6. Cut the CC expanding sealer at all corners.
  7. Install the window.
  8. Mount the jamb/frame screw directly through the expanding sealer if needed.
  9. Now you can just wait for the CC Expanding Sealer to expand! The expansion time is 1-3 hours at room temperature (21-21°C), at colder temperatures a longer expansion time applies.

Remember that: The CC Expanding Sealer replaces other types of insulation such as strips of glass wool or joint foam. However, the product does not replace the inner or outer seal. In cold climates the inside must therefore be made air and vapour-sealed with, for example, suitable joint sealant or tape. On the outside, weather sealing is made by, for example, an exterior window trim or a sutible joint sealer. The formula of CC Expanding Sealer makes it impossible for any mold to grow inside of the product.

Use a backer rod when the standard frame has a wider width than 60 mm, and therefore the required air gap ends up in the right place, i.e. on the outside. When using vapor-proof joint tape, CC expanding sealer can be placed flush with the inside of the frame.
– Optimal joint width for the drive strip is 5-15 mm.

According to Type Approval 01/05/98

CC Expanding Sealer must be protected against moisture and UV light with a cover strip made of, for example, sheet metal or sealant. The inside must be protected with a  joint sealer or an approved tape. Should moisture get in after all, there are no living organisms in CC expanding sealer, which means that it cannot possibly mold.
